CAIRO, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The death toll rose to 22 after a bus overturned on Wednesday in Egypt's South Sinai province, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population.
The accident also injured 28 others, who were taken to three nearby hospitals.
Twenty ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the accident, which occurred on the road between the popular tourist towns of Dahab and Nuweiba on the eastern coast of South Sinai.
Initial investigations indicated that the bus driver was traveling at high speed and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn, local media reported.
Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar ordered a heightened state of preparedness and instructed authorities to provide all necessary emergency and medical services to the injured.
The ministry said all medical teams were working at full capacity to respond to the accident efficiently and swiftly, and the situation was being closely monitored. ■
