JERUSALEM, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Israel and Greece signed a defense deal worth about 3 billion euros (3.5 billion U.S. dollars), under which Israeli companies will supply Athens with a multi-layered air defense system, Israel's Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The project, known as "Achilles Shield," will include David's Sling anti-missile system and the Spyder system, a mobile air defense system made by Rafael, a state-owned Israeli defense company. It will also include the Barak MX system, an air defense system for land and naval deployment made by Israel Aerospace Industries, radars and a national command-and-control system, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry described the agreement as the largest defense export deal between Israel and Greece and one of Israel's biggest defense export deals ever. A separate 26 million-euro deal for Rafael's Drone Dome anti-drone system was also signed.
