YAOUNDE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed Sunday morning in Cameroon when an intercity bus collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck near Edea on the Douala-Yaounde highway, witnesses and local police said.

The crash occurred at Logbadjeck, along the national road linking the country's two largest cities. Several other passengers were injured.

Cameroon's Minister of Transport Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe visited the scene and ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The incident comes just days after 16 people were killed and 40 others injured in a separate crash on the Yaounde-Bafoussam highway.

Deadly road accidents are frequent in Cameroon, often attributed to poor road conditions and reckless driving. According to the Ministry of Transport, around 1,500 people die in road accidents in the country each year.
