KABUL, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched the construction of 14 development projects in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province, the official Bakhtar News Agency reported on Tuesday.
The projects, which include the construction of roads, recreational parks and water canals, are funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and will be implemented on the outskirts of Pul-e-Khumri, the provincial capital, the report said, citing Qari Naqibullah Mohammadi, mayor of the city.
The initiatives are expected to deliver significant economic benefits by improving public services and generating much-needed employment opportunities for local communities as the province continues its gradual recovery from decades of conflict and economic hardship.
The Afghan government has called on both domestic and international organizations to invest in the country, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the national economy and creating jobs nationwide. ■
