BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Santiago Ascacibar scored a first-half equalizer as Boca Juniors and Velez Sarsfield drew 1-1 in Argentina's Clausura tournament on Saturday.
Valdes gave Velez the lead in the 12th minute at Boca's La Bombonera with a chipped finish after a swift counterattack.
Ascacibar equalized in the 39th minute by bundling home from close range after Leonel Flores' shot was parried away by Tomas Marchiori.
Boca looked more likely to score in the second half but could not find a way past Marchiori, who made a series of sharp saves.
Velez remains top of Zone A with 10 points from four games, five ahead of sixth-placed Boca.
In other Argentine top-flight fixtures on Saturday, Deportivo Riestra won 2-0 at home to Estudiantes, Sarmiento prevailed 2-1 at Atletico Tucuman, Tigre edged to a 1-0 home win over River Plate, Platense won 1-0 at Independiente and Instituto secured a 1-0 home win over Gimnasia Mendoza. ■
