LIMA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and six others injured early Saturday after a minivan collided with a trailer truck on a highway in Peru's southern Cusco region, local media reported.
State news agency Andina, citing police sources in Cusco, said the crash occurred at around 2 a.m. local time near the Pulpera Bridge in the Pallpata district of Espinar province.
Traffic on the highway was temporarily suspended as prosecutors and police carried out legal procedures at the scene and investigated the cause of the crash.
Traffic accidents are common in Peru, with poor road and vehicle conditions, as well as unlicensed and drunk driving, being among the main causes. ■
