BAGHDAD, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and four others injured on Tuesday when a bus crashed into an electricity pole near the southern Iraqi city of Diwaniyah, local sources said.
Sabah al-Shuwaili of the Diwaniyah Traffic Directorate attributed the accident to excessive speeding and driver distraction.
A source at the Diwaniyah General Hospital confirmed to Xinhua that the hospital received six bodies and four injured victims from the crash.
Traffic accidents are common in Iraq due to poor road conditions and widespread disregard for safety regulations. ■
