KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) recorded a 5.7 percent expansion in gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025, outpacing the country's overall economic growth of 5.2 percent, according to official data released on Thursday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement that value added by MSMEs rose to 689.8 billion ringgit (about 168.55 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025 from 652.8 billion ringgit a year earlier, accounting for 39.7 percent of Malaysia's GDP.

The services and manufacturing sectors remained the backbone of the MSME economy, contributing a combined 84.5 percent of total MSME GDP.

Meanwhile, MSME exports grew 10.5 percent year on year to 214.5 billion ringgit in 2025, supported by the manufacturing and services sectors, which grew by 8.8 percent and 14 percent, respectively.
