LIMA, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Peru's President-elect Keiko Fujimori took office Tuesday after being sworn in at a ceremony held at the Legislative Palace in Lima.
Fujimori, the first woman elected president of Peru by popular vote, took the oath of office for the 2026-2031 term, pledging to faithfully perform her duties as president and uphold the Constitution and the country's laws.
She also vowed to defend Peru's sovereignty, freedom and democracy, and safeguard the independence of the branches of government.
First Vice President Luis Galarreta and Second Vice President Miguel Torres, who also serves as president of the Senate, were also sworn in during the ceremony. ■
