BUENOS AIRES, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Argentina will resume exports of fresh poultry meat and poultry products to the European Union (EU) in August after the bloc restored sanitary authorization for the shipments, goverment officials said Tuesday.
The decision followed Argentina's recovery of its disease-free status in line with recommendations from the World Organisation for Animal Health after the country brought previous outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza under control and eradicated them, according to the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Secretariat.
In a statement, the secretariat said the EU had confirmed that Argentina may resume exports of fresh poultry meat and poultry products from Aug. 17 after regaining its status as a country free of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
The recognition validates Argentina's sanitary control system and restores access to a strategic market for national poultry exports, it said.
The move will also strengthen the international standing of Argentina's poultry industry and support access to other overseas markets. The Netherlands, Spain and Germany are among the main destinations for Argentine poultry exports within the EU.
The secretariat said the measure is especially important as Interim Trade Agreement between the EU and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), which entered into provisional force on May 1, allows Argentina to fully utilize the preferential poultry meat quota under the deal.
Official data showed Argentina's poultry meat exports to the EU exceeded 14 million U.S. dollars in 2025, up 32 percent from a year earlier. ■
