SINGAPORE, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's manufacturing output rose 7.2 percent year-on-year in June, supported by robust growth in the electronics, precision engineering and transport engineering sectors, official data showed on Monday.

The electronics cluster led growth, expanding 21.3 percent from a year earlier, driven by the infocomms and consumer electronics, and semiconductor segments amid sustained demand linked to artificial intelligence (AI), the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) said in a statement.

Precision engineering output increased 14.9 percent, supported by higher production of semiconductor equipment in the machinery and systems segment.

Transport engineering rose 4.6 percent, with growth in both the land transport and aerospace segments.

In contrast, general manufacturing industries contracted 6.8 percent, mainly due to lower production of milk powder, beverages and cocoa products.

Biomedical manufacturing declined 11.4 percent, led by the pharmaceuticals segment. Chemicals declined 11.7 percent, led by lower production in the petroleum and petrochemicals segments.
