PHNOM PENH, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia generated 1.75 billion U.S. dollars from the exports of raw cashew nuts in the first half of 2026, according to a Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) report released on Thursday.
The Southeast Asian nation exported a total of 1.03 million metric tonnes of the commodity between January and June, the report said, adding that this marked a 28 percent increase in export volume compared to the same period last year.
CAC President Uon Silot said that almost all raw cashew nuts were shipped to neighboring Vietnam and added that market prices have steadily improved over the previous year.
"This July, raw cashew nut prices rose to 8,200 Riel (2.05 U.S. dollars) per kg, up from 7,500 Riel (1.87 dollars) in 2025," he said.
Silot expressed optimism that climate anomalies like El Nino would not severely harm yields because the local cashew nut varieties are highly heat-tolerant, managing well in temperatures below 41-42 degrees Celsius.
Cashew nuts are one of the country's main cash crops, along with rice, rubber, cassava, bananas, mangoes, longans, and pepper.
According to the CAC, Cambodia currently maintains around 700,000 hectares of cashew plantations spread across 10 provinces. ■
