HANOI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's expressway network will expand to 46 routes with a combined length of approximately 10,106 km by 2050 under a revised national road network plan announced Thursday by the Department for Roads of Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The revised plan adds five new expressways to the national network, according to the report.
Under the plan, the country's national highway system will comprise 136 routes with a total length of about 26,340 km.
Nguyen Thanh Hoai, deputy director general of the department, said the road network plan serves as the national master plan for the road transport sector, providing guidance for the development of the country's road infrastructure.
It also provides a basis for managing and mobilizing investment resources, while strengthening regional connectivity and improving links among economic hubs, urban centers, border gates, seaports, airports and other major transport hubs. ■
