TEHRAN, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian army said its forces launched retaliatory drone strikes against U.S. bases and assets in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait on Wednesday.
In statements published on its website, the army said its forces hit buildings housing U.S. forces and U.S. equipment depots at the al-Azraq base in Jordan, and targeted large U.S. equipment depots and silos as well as heavy aircraft maintenance hangars at the Shaikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.
It said its forces also launched drone attacks on U.S. military units in Kuwait, hitting ammunition depots and logistical equipment at Camp Doha.
The strikes were in retaliation for recent U.S. attacks against Iranian regions, it said, adding that its forces are ready to confront any new "conspiracy and adventurism by the enemy."
Several explosions were reported on Wednesday morning in different parts of Iran, including the southern port city of Bushehr and the northwestern city of Tabriz, while Tehran's air defenses were activated following fresh U.S. strikes, according to Iranian media.
In a post on social media platform X early Wednesday, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces had "successfully completed the 11th consecutive evening of strikes against Iran."
"CENTCOM assets targeted Iranian military operations centers, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, and military logistics infrastructure to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," it said.
In response, Iran has over the past days launched waves of missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military bases and facilities in the region. It also warned early Wednesday that if the United States attacks Iran's nuclear and other sensitive sites, Tehran would expand its strikes and target U.S. and its allies' interests across the region. ■
