THE HAGUE, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Fifteen people were injured when two trams collided in Rotterdam, the Netherlands' second-largest city, on Wednesday, causing one of the trams to derail, the city's safety authority said.
The number of injured was revised down from an earlier estimate of 18. One person was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
The accident occurred at around 11:10 a.m. local time (1010 GMT) on the Erasmus Bridge. One tram was approaching from the city center at high speed when it collided with another tram that was stationary in front of an open bridge. The impact scattered debris onto the ground.
Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, were dispatched to the scene. The bridge was closed following the incident, and the cause of the accident is under investigation. ■
