CAIRO, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Monday held a phone call with UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Abdelatty stressed the need to consolidate the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire and accelerate humanitarian aid deliveries into the strip, while calling for a full Israeli withdrawal from the enclave, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

He condemned ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank and reiterated Egypt's rejection of annexation and settlement expansion, calling them a blatant breach of international law and a grave setback to the two-state solution.

Abdelatty said regional stability and security can only be achieved by restoring all the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

For her part, Kaag appreciated Egypt's role in stabilizing Gaza, as well as its mediation efforts and humanitarian initiatives to secure peace in the enclave, according to the statement.

A ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has been in effect since Oct. 10, 2025. Its first phase included exchanges of hostages and detainees, the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of the territory.

Gaza-based health authorities said Monday that the death toll in the enclave since the ceasefire took effect has reached 1,158, with 3,756 injured.
