KUWAIT CITY, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait said Thursday its air defense systems have intercepted 32 hostile drones that entered its airspace since dawn, as authorities accused Iran of targeting key facilities across the Gulf state.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said the drones were neutralized following what it described as "Iranian aggression" against a number of Kuwait's vital installations.

It said falling debris from the intercepted drones damaged property in several residential areas, and no casualties were reported.

The Kuwaiti authorities did not provide further details about the targeted sites or the extent of the damage.

The development came amid heightened regional tensions after the United States carried out waves of strikes on Iran in recent days, saying the operations were aimed at "degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping" in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has since responded by launching missiles and drones targeting U.S. bases and facilities in several Gulf states.
