ISTANBUL, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye on Monday detained 968 suspects in nationwide raids for links to the failed coup on July 15, 2016, days before its 10th anniversary, said authorities.
The coordinated raids in all 81 provinces began early Monday, with the highest number of suspects detained in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, said a joint statement by the justice and interior ministries.
Investigations into the current structure, clandestine networks and affiliated elements of the Gulen movement were continuing across the country, it said.
The Turkish government accuses the movement, led by Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen, who lived in self-exile in the United States from 1999 until he died in 2024, of orchestrating the 2016 coup that left more than 250 people dead and thousands injured.
Türkiye has designated the group as a terrorist organization and arrested tens of thousands of suspects over alleged links to it. ■
