SHANGHAI, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A forum on the role of soft power in the enduring governance of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Shanghai on Friday.
Co-hosted by the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, Xinhua News Agency and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), the event brought together about 100 diplomats, think tank experts and media representatives from 40 countries.
Wang Junwei, director of the academic and editorial committee of the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, said the strong soft power underpinning the CPC's enduring governance is not only the key to its success but also offers profound insights for the world.
"As the world's largest governing party, the CPC is increasingly demonstrating its strong appeal and influence, with its soft power gaining wider recognition around the world," Wang noted.
Huo Xiaoguang, vice president of Xinhua News Agency, said the CPC's soft power stems from its continuous efforts to address the challenges of the times through theoretical innovation, consolidate its governing foundation by putting the people first, and promote common development via mutual learning among civilizations.
This soft power is the systematic thinking and practice accumulated over the CPC's 105-year history of endeavor, Huo said, adding that the CPC is capable not only of creating a better life for the Chinese people, but also of making new and greater contributions to the cause of human progress.
Xi Lifeng, executive vice president of SJTU, said the international influence of the CPC is reflected in its governance concepts and practices, and in the international public goods it has proposed, such as building a community with a shared future for humanity.
During the forum, the participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including the people-first governing philosophy, the guiding role of theoretical innovation, and the Party's firm commitment to peaceful development. ■
