TRIPOLI, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Libya on Tuesday launched its Strategic Climate Framework under the Paris Agreement following formal endorsement by the internationally recognized Government of National Unity.
The framework includes the country's first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for 2026-2035, the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to 2045, and its first Initial National Communication (INC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
At the signing and endorsement ceremony, Libyan Environment Minister Ibrahim Al-Arabi Munir said the newly adopted framework embraces a balanced approach that combines climate adaptation measures with efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
UNDP Resident Representative in Libya Sophie Kemkhadze said the adoption of the framework establishes a solid foundation for attracting climate investments and mobilizing international financing, while strengthening partnerships and coordination across the seven key sectors involved in its preparation: energy, transport, industry, agriculture, finance, waste management and local governance.
Libya's NDC prioritizes expanding renewable energy projects, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening the management of water resources and land. Meanwhile, the NAP identifies 14 priority actions to address climate-related impacts on water security, food security and infrastructure through 2045 and beyond. ■
