HANOI, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's total electricity production and imports reached 171.54 billion kWh in the first six months of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 9.85 percent, the Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday, citing Vietnam Electricity.

During the six-month period, coal-fired power remained the largest power source, generating 93.44 billion kWh, followed by hydropower at 36.1 billion kWh, renewable energy at 22.12 billion kWh, gas-fired power at 13.71 billion kWh, and imported electricity at 5.93 billion kWh.

Power transmission increased 10.83 percent year on year to an estimated 138.2 billion kWh, according to the report.

The National Power System and Market Operator Company said total electricity production and imports in the second half of the year could reach 187.5 billion kWh, up 12.3 percent from the same period last year. This would bring the full-year figure to an estimated 358.6 billion kWh, an increase of 11.1 percent over 2025.
