KAMPALA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will send a team to the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Beijing from Dec. 1-6, the country's swimming governing body confirmed Tuesday.
Moses Mwase, president of Uganda Aquatics, told Xinhua the Beijing event is one of several major international competitions on Uganda's schedule this year.
"We shall have our swimmers participate in several international championships in 2026, including the World Aquatics Swimming Championship in China. The swimmers have been preparing since the start of the year since we have arranged to take part in many events, including the Commonwealth Games in Scotland," Mwase said.
He added that selection for the Beijing event will be based on swimmers' performances throughout the year.
"Participating in the championship in China will help our swimmers compete against the best swimmers in the world and this will give them very good exposure," he said.
The World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) will be held at the Beijing National Aquatics Center, also known as the Water Cube, and is expected to attract many of the world's leading short-course swimmers. ■
