ISLAMABAD, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Nine police personnel were killed in a terrorist attack in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, officials said on Tuesday.
Armed terrorists attacked a police facility in the Mangi Phase-III area of Ziarat district, the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) Office said in a statement, adding that the bodies of the slain personnel had been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Ziarat.
Police said an exchange of fire between the attackers and law enforcement personnel had continued since Monday night, with security forces conducting an operation in the area.
Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack, while security operations are continuing to clear the area and prevent further violence.
The DC office condemned the attack and said efforts were underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. ■
