SEOUL, July 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sale logged a double-digit growth last month owing to strong demand for electric vehicles and German luxury models, industry data showed Friday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here jumped 37.0 percent from a year earlier to 38,059 in June, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

For the first six months of 2026, 184,032 imported cars were sold, up 33.2 percent compared to the same period of last year.

U.S. carmaker Tesla ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 11,119 units last month.

German automaker BMW came next with the sale of 6,569 units, followed by German carmaker Mercedes-Benz with 5,565 units, BYD with 4,652 units, Audi with 1,772 units, Lexus with 1,694 units and Volvo with 1,679 units.

The number of European models sold here was 18,820 last month, taking up 49.4 percent of the total. U.S., Chinese and Japanese brands recorded the market shares of 30.1 percent, 12.2 percent and 8.3 percent each.
