KABUL, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched two infrastructure projects in the western provinces of Herat and Farah aimed at improving urban transport and strengthening flood protection, the official media Bakhtar News Agency reported on Thursday.
In Herat province, construction has begun on a 650-meter retaining wall along the Injil Canal in the 11th municipal district. The project is expected to be completed within three months and will help reduce flood damage and prevent erosion along the canal's banks.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Farah province, work has started on a 420-meter road. The project, valued at 13.5 million Afghanis (about 211,000 U.S. dollars), is also scheduled for completion within three months.
According to the municipality, the road will include a central boulevard and a lighting system, and is expected to ease traffic congestion and support commercial development in the city. ■
