SYDNEY, July 1 (Xinhua) -- A man has died, and two others have been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a suspicious house fire in the Australian state of Queensland.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement on Wednesday that emergency services were called to reports of a residence on fire in the suburb of Hope Island, 54 km southeast of Brisbane, around 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The fire, which caused extensive damage, was extinguished, and a 38-year-old man was found deceased inside the property.
Two other men, aged 44 and 84, suffered life-threatening burn injuries and were taken to a Brisbane hospital for treatment.
A 59-year-old woman was taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries she sustained while evacuating the house, and a 38-year-old man who also evacuated was not physically injured.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that police believe the house was set alight by an unknown offender.
The QPS said that a crime scene has been declared and is appealing to anyone with information or relevant footage to contact investigators. ■
