SINGAPORE, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Two people were taken to a hospital after being exposed to ammonia vapor following a leak at an industrial compound in western Singapore on Monday, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said.
The SCDF said in a Facebook post that it received a call for assistance around noon local time at No. 11 Fishery Port Road, where ammonia was detected within the premises.
The address is home to an ice supplier.
SCDF hazardous materials specialists traced the leak to a pipe inside a room on the premises. The supply valve to the affected pipe was shut off, and subsequent readings confirmed that ammonia vapor concentrations had fallen, the agency said.
The premises were evacuated, and, as a precaution, occupants at neighboring properties at No. 9 and No. 15 Fishery Port Road were also evacuated.
The SCDF advised members of the public to stay away from the area. ■
