BEIJING, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Four more Chinese meteorological stations have been recognized as centennial observing stations by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), bringing the total number of such stations in China to 22, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).

The four observatories are located in Guiyang in Guizhou Province, Tanggu in Tianjin Municipality, Tengchong in Yunnan Province and Yueyang in Hunan Province.

All four stations have maintained continuous observations for over a century, with Tanggu and Yueyang tracing their records back to 1909, Tengchong to 1911 and Guiyang to 1920.

For over a century, these stations have accumulated long-term, stable and scientifically valuable meteorological data, supporting improved weather forecasting services, regional climate pattern research and the monitoring of extreme weather events, a CMA official said.

Launched in 2016, the WMO's centennial observing station recognition mechanism is designed to protect long-standing observation stations and promote the generation of consistent and accurate climate records.
