Wang Jinqiao, a researcher and deputy chief engineer at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has spent more than two decades studying visual recognition. He also heads Wuhan AI Research (WAIR) and chairs a company focused on commercializing Zidongtaichu technologies.

Wang's work on Zidongtaichu Foundation Model Research Center at the CAS Institute of Automation began in 2020. In 2021, Wang and his team launched Zidongtaichu, described as the world's first 100-billion-parameter multimodal model integrating text, images and audio.

To bring research findings into real-world applications, Wang's team has built a three-part system. The Zidongtaichu Foundation Model Research Center at the CAS Institute of Automation focuses on theoretical research. Wuhan AI Research works on key technologies and engineering applications, while the company develops products and commercial solutions for practical use.

Building on the latest version of Zidongtaichu, the team is now focusing on embodied AI and AI for science. It has launched an embodied AI training platform and developed a new AI agent designed to support scientific research.

"The team's core mission is to accelerate the application of technology across industries, improve productivity and foster new quality productive forces through a domestically built full-stack technology base," Wang said. (Xinhua/Jin Liwang)
