KABUL, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched two significant infrastructure projects in western Herat province, while three landmark developments have been completed and handed over to the public, officials announced late Thursday.
According to Mohammad Yusuf Sayedi, spokesman for the provincial government, work has commenced on the towering new structure in the city center, alongside a new underpass in front of Herat Regional Hospital in the provincial capital, Herat city. This forms part of broader efforts in the province valued at over 1.6 billion afghanis (over 26 million U.S. dollars).
In a separate development on Tuesday, authorities laid the foundation stone for a large-scale private-sector residential complex valued at 150 million U.S. dollars in northern Balkh province.
These projects form part of the Afghan government's broader national strategy to rebuild and modernize the country's war-ravaged infrastructure, aiming to drive economic recovery, promote sustainable development, and improve living standards. ■
