MOSCOW, May 15 (Xinhua) -- The number of cybercrimes in Russia fell 12 percent in 2025, the first decline in several years, a senior official with Russia's financial monitoring agency (Rosfinmonitoring) said Friday.

German Neglyad, deputy head of the agency, said in an interview with RIA Novosti news agency that the reduction followed the implementation of a package of anti-cyber fraud measures that came into force in June last year.

Neglyad said that an anti-fraud legislation, which took effect in the second half of 2025, contributed to a notable drop in cybercrimes during the third and fourth quarters of the year. He expressed confidence that the downward trend would continue through 2026.

Neglyad also attributed the decline to extensive public awareness campaigns conducted in schools and universities, aimed at educating young people about the legal consequences of participating in cybercrime schemes.

The measures were designed to combat telephone and online fraud, such as automatic identification of calls from organizations, tighter restrictions on password changes for the government services portal Gosuslugi, a ban on government agencies and banks using messenger apps for official calls, and enhanced data-sharing mechanisms among banks, telecom operators and state agencies.
