DUBAI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and 19 others injured on Thursday after a truck collided with a bus on a major road in Dubai, local media reported.
The accident occurred on Al Yalayis Street near the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Bridge heading toward Emirates Road, according to Dubai Police.
Among the injured, eight sustained critical injuries, two suffered moderate injuries, while nine sustained minor injuries. All injured were transferred to hospitals for treatment.
Preliminary investigations showed that the bus had stopped suddenly in the middle of the road due to a technical malfunction before being struck from behind by the truck, local media Gulf News reported, citing Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police.
Traffic patrols and accident investigation teams were dispatched to the scene to secure the area, regulate traffic flow, and facilitate rescue operations, police said. ■
