KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysia-China Forum on EV, Battery and New Energy Talent Development and Innovation (MCEF 2026) was held here on Tuesday to strengthen bilateral cooperation in future mobility and green energy development.
The forum was officiated by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, highlighting Malaysia's ambitions in sustainable mobility, advanced manufacturing, and green energy transformation.
As Malaysia accelerates the development of the sectors, challenges related to talent shortages, workforce transition and the need for closer alignment between industry demand and the national Technical and Vocational Education and Training ecosystem are becoming increasingly pressing.
Against this backdrop, the MCEF 2026 was positioned not merely as an industry gathering, but as a high-level platform to address the policy, talent and ecosystem issues shaping Malaysia's next phase of industrial growth.
During the forum, Singtis EdTech, together with China EV100 and Global Renewable Energy and Electric Mobility, alongside organizer GTEX Asia Sdn Bhd, unveiled two strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening long-term Malaysia-China cooperation.
The first initiative, the Malaysia-China Green and Smart Mobility Cooperation Hub, will serve as a dedicated platform to promote industrial collaboration, policy dialogue and ecosystem development in green and smart mobility, while the second initiative, the Flagship EV, Battery and New Energy Talent Program, aims to develop 10,000 skilled professionals over the next five years to help meet Malaysia's rapidly growing demand for talent in the sector.
Together, the initiatives underscore the forum's strong emphasis on practical cooperation, talent development, industrial innovation and long-term ecosystem support for Malaysia's rapidly evolving green mobility and clean energy industries. ■
