JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China suffered its second loss in as many group matches, defeated by Japan 2-1 at the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
Now China sits bottom in Group B without a point with only a mathematical chance to progress while Japan leads the group with six points.
Anthony Motosuna opened the scoring for Japan in the 37th minute before Zhao Songyuan equalized for China early in the second half. Substitute Maki Kitahara sealed Japan's win with a long-range strike in the 60th minute.
Also on Saturday, Qatar defeated Indonesia 2-0. The two teams have three points each.
China will face Qatar in its final group match on Tuesday. ■
