KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia has signed an agreement with German semiconductor equipment maker AIXTRON SE to develop a greenfield manufacturing facility in Penang state, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) said on Tuesday.
The investment marks a key milestone in the company's global expansion strategy and strengthens Malaysia's position as a rising hub for advanced semiconductor manufacturing, MIDA said in a joint statement with AIXTRON SE.
The facility is expected to support growing global demand for advanced semiconductor process technologies, while improving production capacity, supply chain resilience and proximity to customers across the Asia-Pacific region.
It will focus on manufacturing and supporting systems used in next-generation semiconductor devices, including applications in power electronics, advanced communications, optoelectronics and emerging computing architectures. ■
