CHENGDU, May 1 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and 11 others injured in a traffic accident in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Friday, local authorities said.
The accident happened at around 5:20 p.m. in the Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone of the provincial capital Chengdu, said local public security bureau. According to a preliminary investigation, the 31-year-old driver, surnamed Li, struck pedestrians when making a right turn at an intersection. Li fled the scene, hitting other vehicles and pedestrians during the escape.
All the 11 injured have been taken to hospital.
The driver was caught at the scene. Further investigation into the accident is underway. ■
