ISLAMABAD, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Eleven countries, including Pakistan, on Friday strongly condemned what they described as an Israeli assault on the Global Sumud Flotilla, a pro-Palestinian humanitarian convoy, calling it a violation of international law and an obstruction of humanitarian efforts aimed at Gaza.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Türkiye, Brazil, Jordan, Bangladesh, Colombia, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, South Africa and Spain denounced the reported attack on civilian vessels and the detention of activists in international waters.
The ministers said the flotilla was a peaceful humanitarian initiative aimed at drawing international attention to the worsening situation in Gaza, describing the Israeli actions as "flagrant violations" of international law and international humanitarian law.
Expressing deep concern over the safety of activists on board, they urged Israeli authorities to take necessary measures to ensure their protection and immediate release.
They also called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations by upholding international law, protecting civilians, and ensuring accountability for the violations.
The statement, issued in Islamabad, reflects growing international concern over the situation in Gaza and renewed calls for humanitarian access and accountability. ■
