DAMASCUS, May 1 (Xinhua) -- A hand grenade explosion hit the Sayyida Zeinab area south of Damascus on Friday, Syrian authorities said.
Security forces have cordoned off the site, as specialized teams launched an investigation into the incident, state news agency SANA reported, citing a security source.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The Sayyida Zeinab area, home to a major Shiite shrine, has previously been attacked during Syria's yearslong conflict.
