10 injured in 4-vehicle crash in Australia's Queensland

SYDNEY, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Ten people have been hospitalized, including two in critical condition, after a teenage driver caused a four-vehicle collision north of Brisbane in the Australian state of Queensland on Thursday night.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said on Friday that a white Mitsubishi that was being illegally driven by a 14-year-old lost control on a road about 230 km north of Brisbane and collided with three vehicles traveling in the opposite direction around 6:10 p.m. on Thursday.

A 16-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Mitsubishi and an 18-year-old woman who was driving one of the three other vehicles sustained serious injuries and were both airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

The 14-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi and two other passengers, another 14-year-old boy and a second 16-year-old girl, suffered various injuries and were hospitalized in stable conditions.

Five other people, occupants of the other three vehicles, ranging in age from 2 to 58, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The QPS said that the forensic crash unit has commenced an investigation into the incident.

The minimum legal age to drive without an adult supervisor in Queensland is 17.
