ADDIS ABABA, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 100 students and construction workers have completed a China-supported training program at General Wingate Polytechnic College in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

The 10-day program, conducted jointly by China Communications Construction Company and Shaanxi Polytechnic University, combined classroom and hands-on sessions, focusing on Chinese language and construction engineering knowledge and skills.

At a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai presented awards to outstanding trainees.

Liu Xiaoguang, minister counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, said the training program marks another meaningful moment in deepening people-to-people exchanges and advancing practical cooperation between China and Ethiopia.

"The training program has delivered well-designed courses and practical training, fostering an effective integration of language acquisition and professional competencies," Liu said. "This was a successful cultural practice and a concrete measure to implement the initiative of 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges."

Melese Yigzaw, dean of the General Wingate Polytechnic College, emphasized the significance of the training program in strengthening collaboration on technical knowledge and people-to-people relations.

"Your presence here reflects the strong and growing partnership between Ethiopia and China, particularly in the areas of technical and vocational education and training," he said.

"This collaboration plays a vital role in equipping our youth with practical skills that are essential for national development," Yigzaw said, noting that the skills acquired will empower the graduates to contribute meaningfully to the workforce, support industry development, and improve their own livelihoods.
