BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese women's volleyball national team head coach, Zhao Yong, on Wednesday praised his players' improving form after nearly four weeks of training.

The squad, which was named in early April following the conclusion of the domestic league, is preparing for the Volleyball Nations League, the Asian Championship and the Asian Games.

Zhao, who took charge last year, said at an open session that the team initially focused on physical conditioning but has since stepped up the intensity.

"From last week, we started link-up training and practice matches. Every player has shown a positive attitude and the whole team is in good condition," he said.

The squad blends experienced players with emerging talent, with the returns of Li Yingying and Gong Xiangyu alongside several younger players who impressed in the domestic league. Zhao said the mix would strengthen team cohesion.

"The Asian Championship will be the top priority among this year's competitions. The veteran players' experience, ability to handle pressure and technical proficiency are indispensable to the team. They can help steady the team's morale in crucial matches. The young players, through this phase of training, have each shown passion and energy," he added.

Gong, who trained individually on Wednesday, said her time overseas had broadened her perspective and could benefit her performances for the national team.

"I really missed everyone. It's been about a whole league season since we last met, so I was very excited on my first day back. Now there are many young players, and the whole team is thriving. I also hope that the accumulation of our daily training can be shown in this year's series of competitions," she said.
