VIENTIANE, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government has reviewed the current situation and urgent priority tasks, and is intensifying efforts to stabilize the economy and strengthen regulation in key sectors.
The government's monthly meeting for April was held in Vientiane from Monday to Tuesday, bringing together senior officials to review recent developments and set detailed priorities for the coming month.
Authorities reported that political stability and social order remain firm, with signs of macroeconomic improvement, Lao Economic Daily reported on Wednesday.
Looking ahead to May, the government will prioritize stricter enforcement of laws on illegal mining, intensify efforts to combat online scams, and focus on rural development and poverty reduction.
Economic measures will include reducing imports, boosting exports, and improving agricultural land management to prevent forest encroachment. A nationwide tree-planting drive will be rolled out as part of environmental efforts.
Authorities will also develop a national master plan targeting 30 percent electric vehicle usage by 2030. Planned infrastructure improvements include clearing drainage systems ahead of the rainy season to reduce flood risks.
On monetary policy, the government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the stability of the Lao currency. ■
