JAKARTA, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said Tuesday that he had designated waste management as a national priority, aiming to bring the country's waste problem under control within the next three years.
The president made the remarks during a visit to an integrated waste processing facility in Banyumas, Central Java, where he underscored the urgency of improving waste management nationwide.
"Waste processing is a national priority. Within two to three years, we must be able to control the waste problem," he said.
He pointed to the Banyumas facility as an example that could be replicated in other regions, noting that it has implemented an integrated system covering collection, sorting and processing.
Indonesia has been grappling with increasing waste generation in recent years, prompting the government to step up efforts to strengthen environmental management and promote sustainable, locally driven solutions across the country. ■
