TOKYO, April 27 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck Japan's northern prefecture of Hokkaido at around 5:24 a.m. local time Monday, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said.
The temblor originated at a depth of about 80 km, measuring upper 5 on Japan's seismic scale of 7 in areas such as Urahoro in Hokkaido, said the JMA.
The quake's epicenter was located at a latitude of 42.6 degrees north and a longitude of 143.1 degrees east.
No tsunami advisory was issued, according to the JMA. No immediate injuries or damages have been reported. ■
