KUWAIT CITY, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait announced on Wednesday that it will ease maritime restrictions, allowing fishing and recreational boats to operate during daytime hours starting Friday, as part of efforts to regulate sea traffic while maintaining security.

The decision allows boats to sail from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. beginning April 24, following an evaluation of the current situation, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry.

Director General of the Coast Guard Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al-Yousef urged seagoers to strictly adhere to designated navigation routes and avoid approaching oil facilities and other vital installations.

Kuwait had tightened maritime and security measures in recent weeks following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on Feb. 28, which prompted retaliatory actions by Iran and its regional allies targeting U.S. and Israeli interests across the Gulf region, including Kuwait.

A ceasefire between the United States and Iran took effect on April 8 after 40 days of fighting. U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he would extend the ceasefire as the current two-week truce was set to expire.
