COLOMBO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lanka Navy seized 10 multi-day fishing trawlers owned by Sri Lankans and used for drug trafficking in the first quarter of 2026, a navy spokesman said on Friday.
Navy Media Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath said this after the navy seized another such vessel on Thursday and arrested four people.
Sampath said the navy seized more than 1,800 kilos of drugs from the 10 vessels, including crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice," heroin, hashish, and cocaine.
The estimated street value of the confiscated narcotics exceeds 44 billion rupees (about 139 million U.S. dollars), he said. ■
