KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia is encouraging wider adoption of rooftop solar and energy efficiency measures as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the global energy crisis and strengthen long-term energy sustainability, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation said Friday.
Consumers in both domestic and non-domestic categories are encouraged to participate in the solar accelerated transition action program, launched on Jan. 1, to promote rooftop solar installations and reduce reliance on conventional electricity sources, it said in a statement.
It said the program is designed to generate economic value for users through lower electricity costs, rather than direct cash payouts, in line with Malaysia's focus on energy efficiency and self-consumption optimization.
The ministry is also working on enhancements to make the program more accessible, particularly for domestic users, to offset the negative impact of the global energy crisis.
It also urged consumers to adopt energy-saving habits, including setting air-conditioners at 24 degrees Celsius, maintaining appliances regularly, choosing high-efficiency electrical products, avoiding standby mode, and using the Time of Use tariff scheme for cost savings.
It said these initiatives are aimed at easing household and business energy costs while strengthening Malaysia's energy security, affordability and sustainability framework, known as the energy trilemma. ■
