BANGKOK, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China edged Uzbekistan 2-1 at the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup on Saturday at Thailand's Thammasat Stadium to advance to the semifinals, securing qualification for the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup to be held in Poland.
Facing the third-placed team from Group B, China, the top finisher in Group A, dominated the first half. In the 29th minute, China's defender Zeng Yujia headed home from close range assisted by Yu Jiaqi's cross to put China 1-0 ahead. China doubled their lead with Yu's effort in the 42nd minute.
Uzbekistan's goal was scored by Mehribon Egamberdieva with a left-foot strike on the right side of the six-yard box in the 69th minute.
China will face Japan in the semifinals on April 15. ■
