VIENNA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger said on Thursday that the current geopolitical tensions have exposed the vulnerabilities of traditional energy systems, underscoring the fundamental importance of energy security.
"The consequences of the tensions are already being felt far beyond the immediate conflict zone in all our economies, in our supply chains and in our energy markets," Meinl-Reisinger made the remarks at an international forum on energy transition and climate change that opened Thursday in Vienna.
Meinl-Reisinger called for building sustainable, renewable and resilient energy systems.
Under the theme "Powering Prosperity, Security and Stability," the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum 2026 is organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), together with the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). ■
