KUWAIT CITY, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Kuwaiti authorities said Saturday that a main transformer station in northwestern Kuwait's Al Jahra governorate has gone out of service, causing a power outage in limited parts of the area.

Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy wrote on social media platform X that the disruption affected several neighborhoods in Al Jahra after the station ceased operations.

Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the site to assess the situation and begin restoration efforts, it said, adding that work is ongoing to restore the electricity supply as quickly as possible.

This followed a separate incident reported a day earlier, in which Kuwait said a power generation and water desalination plant had been struck, resulting in material damage to parts of the facility.

The development came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting on Feb. 28, to which Iran and its regional allies responded with attacks on Israeli and U.S. interests across the Middle East.
